Sengoku Dynasty is a Indie survival strategic RPG sensation released by toplitz productions and developed by super Kami in 2024.
Starting as a nameless farmer fleeing from the Civil War during the collapse of the shogunate the player quickly finds themselves in a shipwreck, experiencing feudal japan in its fullness and beauty but also cruelness. And that is how I too started the game, threading through the gorgeous, but treacherous landscape, trying to build a new life.
With the brand-new Bushido 1.1 Update having just rolled around on June 24th, 2025 this was the perfect opportunity to bring the game closer to the wide audience, it honestly deserves.
First off I want to give a big thank you to Super Kami, Toplitz productions and Eisvita for giving me a free key for Sengoku Dynasty and letting me play early, I’ve been playing the game ever since shortly after Gamescom 2024 and my review of it took a while, but I am more than happy to finally publish it into the world, because the game only deserves the highest praises in my opinion. So thank you for this amazing opportunity again.
As I said prior, I started finding myself on the beach amidst whatever was left of my belongings after a shipwreck and the first task that the game provided me with was to find firewood and other building material to secure warmth and survival.
I was delighted to chop down trees and find not only sticks, but also firewood as an item, bringing me back to the good old days of medieval dynasty 2. After gathering enough, I was then ready to finally build my very first accommodation and a little campfire to keep me safe.

Going in completely blind the very first thing to blow my mind was the vivid and beautiful open world. The developers have clearly done their research and this is so much more than “this looks just like an anime“ quote, no this is the actual beauty and geographical majesty that nature in Japan is.

And unreal engine five does it more than enough justice. I could find myself just standing in nature, observing the mountains, the trees, the sky, the grass, and the white life, forgetting to proceeded to my next task or location. truly a love letter to the beauty of feudal Japan, untouched by industrialization and modernity.

You might think you’ve seen it all when it comes to survival and building games, but Sengoku Dynasty completely overhaul that expectation bringing the past back to life and rewriting the rules of building simulators and adventuring in survival RPG’s. The characters that you will encounter are not only fascinating, but also quickly find their ways into your heart, almost as if they drag you back in time to experience history, as if you were there.
As I briefly mentioned earlier, some of you might already find some familiarities in this game, having played medieval dynasty 2, and this is because single dynasty serves as a sort of sequel to that.
What future are you going to build when the building ground starts from zero? Will you be able to build a settlement all by yourself, will you be able to forge the connects that you need to keep that settlement going and you and your people alive? Will you even find the correct people? With a menu full of diverse settings you tailor your own adventure and experience and can count on the fact that none of them will be quite like the other!

Which leads me to my next and absolutely favorite point of it all. If you are ever worried about not finding the correct people or needing support, you are not as alone as I indicated earlier: The game includes a fantastic co-op mode, enabling you to play with allies and/or friends! I am a bit biased on co-op modes, features like that always immediately have me sold. because the only thing better than a game with a fascinating narrative, environment, and characters that you can experience, is a game that has all that to experience with a friend.

At early access, there were some small tender flaws, which didn’t bother me too much because I knew that I was playing an early test and I trusted the person off to with time and install updates and fix - which they did. And no game is without its quirks so I
especially don’t pitchfork indie-developers about them. after all, what’s nice and fun may differ in the eyes of one versus the other and despite early quirks, the game absolutely became one of the MVPs for the season of Indie games I have tested. Mentioning the early Bushido update again: The game now has made even more game setting and customization improvements, I can't wait for everyone to discover.
This is a non-spoiler review, so I won’t quite delve into the narrative, I would love for you to venture out into this brought an intricate world and experienced that for yourself as you forward your path into a hopefully prosperous, future and village. So all I can say is to go find the game for yourself on Steam, PlayStation or Xbox and dive right into this new adventure to shape your world through combat or economy. At $29,99 with all it has to offer and its quality this game truly is a steal.
I say definitely get it, support Indie Developers and see you next time! Yase out.
